And I had to start checking out the crawler-transporter (pictured here in HUGE size). Unfortunately for anybody interested in purchasing one of the Mobile Launch Platforms, the crawler-transporter is not included. And frankly the crawler is way cooler than the platform itself. The midengined crawler has a combined 7630 hp from its four engines. Two of those are used to power the 16 traction motors while other two are used to power the hydraulics, HVAC and electrical needs of the crawler. And it can carry about 18 million pounds. Granted the top speed is a rather pedestrian 2 mph empty and only about 1 mph when fully loaded and the mileage is horrendous. But really, when you have a vehicle the size of a building that is capable of carrying 18 million pounds and keeping it level while going up a 5% grade, who cares about mileage? Here are a few links to wikipedia and a couple more articles with pictures.

I call Dirty Pool on NASA. I can buy the MLP but not the crawler? That's horse-crap. Tell you what, NASA. Let's do a straight up craigslist trade. I'll take your MLP, and you can have my 3 snowmobiles. But I am keeping the treads, skis, and motors. Deal?

WHAA? What's the point in selling the platform if you don't get the crawler? If I want office space, I'll just go get some of those prefab office trailer things they used to park outside my overcrowded junior high so we could go to English. But where else can I go to get a motivator for my Giant, Armored-Tortoise, Post-Zombiepocalypse, Search and Rescue Operations Unit, or GATPZSROU? WHERE, NASA!?
